November Performances: Hopkins Westwind Overture, "Used Furniture", What Would Jesus Buy?, "Love and Israel"

November was a busy month. The Hopkins Westwind Concert Band performed the piece it commissioned from Mark in 2003, Hopkins Westwind Overture, to a packed house.

Only one day earlier, and about 1500 miles east, Bill Doble's short film "Used Furniture" premiered at the Williamstown Film Festival in Williamstown, MA. Mark composed the score and mixed sound for the comedy short, the second film of Doble's in which the two have collaborated.

Mark attended the premiere of What Would Jesus Buy? by Morgan Spurlock, in New York City. The film features Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping, who examine the commercialism of Christmas. Mark played trumpet for the score for the film's opening, composed by fellow MPA members Steve Horowitz and Wade Tonken.

Mark also designed the sound for "Love and Israel, Collected Stories of an Enduring Romance" which enjoyed a successful six show run at the 8th Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival.

City Harvest PSA
"New York Feeds Me" wins Telly Award

The PSA scored by Mark Sutton, featuring Harrison Ford, won a 2003 Telly Award for post-production.

"Terence Ziegler of Rhinoceros Editorial cut the spot. He stresses that the simple concept was illuminated by the artistic instincts of those involved. 'The director, Timothy White, is quite a renowned photographer, and his visual strength really shows,' says Ziegler. 'And cinematographer Stuart Dryburgh (Kate & Leopold, Analyze This) is brilliant. It’s a simple story, but it’s shot very elegantly. Plus, City Harvest is a great organization and it’s fantastic to have Harrison Ford and his strong presence connected to it.'" Read more...
